Today I'm going to tell you about the Zaatar (pronounced zartar) which is a plant that can be related to the family of thyme. Be careful not to confuse with the Lebanese mixture which usually consists of Thyme, Sumac, and Sesame.
|Here is the Lebanese mixture which is often consumed with bread and olive oil|
I decided to tell you about this plant for its different virtues and because it has accompanied me since my childhood during the cold winter nights
|Not easy to find in France, it is in Algeria that I fill up with zaatar in a city called Ain Azel, where every Friday the peasants and traders descend from their mountains and go up the desert to sell us their product (spices , plants, dates, cattle ...), you will find everything on this market even itinerant doctors!|
Let's go back to the herbs :)
There are very interesting herbs like "al Maramiya" which is an herb with exceptional colors. In fact when I came across this plant I was thinking of discovering something new but in fact this one is quite known by the name of Sage. I will talk about it in another article because like the zaatar it has many virtues.
I also discovered a root identical to ginger but of red color which is called Al Har, which it is not found in France (well after my research). After being reduced to powder and mixed with cinnamon we serve it as an infusion and all in a tent :)
The taste is quite impressive on the spot: Spicy + Cinnamon + Heat + Still Spicy.
The effect fades quickly and only lasts for a sip. You get used to it and you even find this brew quite pleasant.
The zaatar which is widely consumed in Algeria (and certainly in other parts of the world) is used to treat words from the stomach. After a busy meal or if you have digestive problems then take this herb as an infusion and you will see the effects fairly quickly. Personally I take it almost every night and it works.
You can also consume this plant to facilitate sleep.
If you have a cold and / or sore throat this plant is also recommended. Bring some water to the boil and smell the very pleasant zaatar-scented water vapor. This will help you clear your sinuses.
